While I was shooting the images for this year's Buffalo Exchange pride window display I also got to shoot some non project related images of each of the models here is an outtake from the leather fetish look that was amazing. I especially love his bold sprayed on Francois Sagat inspired hairline. This is a look that I love to play around with its a hyper masculine look on an androgynous looking model. I personally think that a lot of those leather fetish looks are comparable to superhero imagery with the painted on or extremely form fitting attire. I guess its hyper sexual take on the inner hero or villain inside of us. I typically shoot more women than men so this was a treat to get to do. ENJOY!!!

This past Saturday I went out with this look and wanted to share it. For all of my photographs, I come up with all the detailed looks for everyone else. I always tell people that every single model is pretty much an extension of the person I WANT TO BE. So instead of vicariously living through other people, I decided I want to express those ideas or live out those fantasies out on myself as well. Every time I get really done up I really feel more like myself or this is what I feel on the inside out. I hope you enjoy it and I will be adding more photographs of MY LOOK to the blog. I love this make up (done by LX), the idea for this look was dark and glam, a bit of controlled chaos. I felt very new Boy George with this look.

ALIEN BEAUTY

THE ALIEN SHOOT...........Finally! I have been wanting to do this image for the longest time. Its funny because I have wanted to do this shoot forever and it actually happened so quickly. I did this image with Bianca the former Miss New Mexico who was in town for a couple days and I asked her on a whim last minute to do this image.I was so into that alien look with zero eyebrows and just tons of highlighting. It was an awesome shoot and we did two separate locations for it. The first was a beauty shot that had silver mirrored paper crumbled up for texture and the second was up against a concrete wall. I am very much into texture, mixing metals and grey and gold color combinations, it just seem so rich to me. So enjoy the images I am very proud of the work and happy I finally got to shoot this. Again all the the hair and make up was done by the extraordinary Alexx Mayo.

I recently made a trip out to Denver for the GAGA concert which was mind blowing but I was as equally excited to see NINA FLOWERS. I think out of all the drag queens I have ever seen she is the ONE whos look just completely blows me away DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA. She, to me, is just beyond what your notion of drag is. As I have said before I have this massive facination with performance artists and Nina Flowers is way up there on that list. I got a moment to talk to her and tell how much I love everything she does and I hope to shoot her oneday. Here are two performances from the Drama Drag night I went to see her. AMAZING!!!!!

I am proud to be involved with an Internet based tv show called Date Doctor Tv. Its an amazing show put together by an amazing crew of talented people. I am friends with one of the main actresses and have quickly become friends with alot of people involved in the show. I took their initially images for the show before they started filming and now they have a whole season under their belt. Recently they asked me for one of my images for a faux fashion magazine that was gonna be in one of the episodes. The finally product looked so incredible considering magazines are where I really want to see my work in. So here is a peek at my faux Cosmopolitan magazine titled Metropolitan and here is the episode it was featured in. Also here are so great shots I recently did of Rebecca Wiggins who plays Barb in Date Doctor. Check out this show its such a high quality production and just so ridiculously good.

I really enjoyed the show it had a great mix of interesting and bizzare work with I love. My favorite piece in the whole show from and artist named Derek Montez with a painting with scrap metal for a face titled sub-culture. 105 Arts Rules!!

PRIDE WINDOW DISPLAY 2010 for Buffalo Exchange

I was so honored to do this one. I was given the opportunity to shoot the window display for Buffalo Exchange's Pride window. The theme for this one for us was One Heart, One World, One Pride. With that in mind I shot something that brought all the sub cultures within the gay culture together to be united. I had a lot of fun with this one because it was very authentic. Every single one of the models in this project were actually gay and known in the Albuquerque gay community. The images were based off the gay flag and each person was a color in it. I chose to make the figures in black and white and the backdrops solid colors. I wanted the display to really pop and look so strong with contrast. I was very proud to be apart of this project because I really don't contribute my work to any particular cause other than my own so it was so wonderful to be a part of and add to the community with what I do best. I titled the whole thing "This Is Not A White Flag" I felt it shows community and the idea that we are only grow and we have the belief that one day ALL will have equality.

I shot this images in Downtown Albuquerque at the Metropolitan Courthouse. The outside of the court house has the most beautiful green marble walls and I thought this would be so beautiful to shoot this image there. I had been worried that we would cause a scene with this look in such a high traffic area but apparently the stars were aligned perfectly because we shot it without hardly any interruption or distractions. I initially had wanted to shoot this image as a full body shot because she had a killer head to toe outfit on. In the end I had shot only 2 headshots and fell in love with this image more. I shows better detail of the lavender lip which to me was the focal point of the whole mask hood she had on. Also I have always wanted to have an image with a too long of title.

I have had this idea for over four years! When the type of images I used to make where very outrageous I actually envisioned this image with an over the top drag queen with a sign that read something like will perform for sex change or something ridiculous and long those lines. (SO GLAD I NEVER CAME AROUND TO SHOOT THAT!! LOL) So fast forward to four years later I decided to still shoot the image but a lot more refined and fashionable. I recently just starting work with an AMAZING stylist by the name of Tess Coats and she pulled this outfit for me. I wanted the image to be about a DESPERATE SEX CRAZED housewife. The look was inspired by Barbara Walters and Marilyn Monroe very stylish and classic with a vintage flare. I was in love with the color of the Dress and jacket. I was quite a funny thing cause the jacket is from the 80's and the dress came out last season and they are the same exact color and material. This outfit was meant to be. This images was taken on the off ramp to 98Th street on the edge of Albuquerque. At this location there are ALWAYS panhandlers begging for money or food so I thought it was ideal to shoot there. This photoshoot was one of the recent projects were the model was fully dress and styled and for this photoshoot we actually had the police called on us not once but twice!! lol of course we were allowed to shoot but it was such a funny thing because of all the nude or bizarre looks we have shot this is the one that is disturbing the peace. Perhaps shooting it on Easter Sunday had a hand in the situation.

I have been working on beauty images lately and I wanted to shoot something that had a major focus on Lip. I shot this image in between doing bridal inspired make up shots and more sexy diva images. I had these sunglasses and immediately thought WOW this would look amazing with an Orange lip. The models name is Tyra Miller and she really is a natural beauty and she definitely had the confidence, energy and sun kissed tan to pull off an orange lip. I think this image is an amazing beauty and make up shot and she is selling the HELL out of those sunglasses. I shot this image in less than 5 mins and it was a race to shoot before the sun set but this image was the result of excellent timing and great modeling and of course GORGEOUS MAKE UP. I am living for this Orange Lip....YES!!!

While on my small vacation I was able to get some new work done. My focus recently has been more on beauty. I have reputation of being the bold dramatic high conceptual artist. However how fun those pictures to create, I also VERY MUCH enjoy doing gorgeous beauty shots. I traveled down south and fell in love with the landscape. I have a huge crush on Cactus' I know it sounds funny but I really enjoy them, in fact they are my favorite plant. haha. The model for this particular shoot was Bianca Matamoros-Koonce who is Miss New Mexico 2009 and she is so good. She has a very refined elegance and her positioning is very controlled and confident. I had shot her once before for a very DRAMATIC crying piece, so now I wanted to showcase her in a more softer more beautiful way. We hiked up a mountain outside Las Cruces, her wearing 6 inch heels and all. This photoshoot was much needed because it had been a couple weeks since I shot anything. Now I can breath and stop shaking from withdraws.

He is one of my favorite London based designers. The shapes he creates are so intense and his shows are always so enthralling for me. The type of woman he designs for is definitely one with strong style and somewhat of a dark side to her, like a high fashion goth aesthetic if you will. I REALLY love his work. I was going through my OLD OlD images the other day. Photos of when I first starting shooting and was barely learning about photography. My very first photography experiences when I was younger were at raves that I attended when i was in high school. haha I used to carry around several disposable cameras everytime I went to a rave because I was so fascinated by all the "characters" that were there. I mean there were people dressed so wild and so out there it had to be documented. I just remember being so enthralled by the way people danced with their lights or glow sticks. So here is one of my first real photoshoots that was inspired by raves and rave dancing. I shot this image when I just had learned about shutter speed times and tricks of photography. I shot this photo in the dark with a flash and long shutter time. It is such a complete dichotomy from what I do today but I still very much Love this image. It really takes me back and I really wanted to share it with YOU!

NYC based artist Phillip J Orozco recently told me that he want to illustrate me into one of his BOYS for a pin up series that he is working on. This totally thrilled me because I am huge fan of his work. I purchased my favorite painting of his last year for my house and its the biggest piece of artwork that I own. The people that he illustrates are always very sexy and seductive, the type that would make you do bad things because your so enthralled by their beauty. So WOW I was really excited when I got to see this piece that was of ME of course its me times a zillion (with the best tan ever) but none the less its me. Lately I have been really obsessed with everything Grace Jones. I find that a lot things that I have been really interested in (Masks,Phillip Tracey hats, Performance Art, Androgyny, Lady Gaga's style, Power Women) all lead straight to her. I have been so inspired by her performances and fashions. Her skin color, facial structure and confidence is so incredible. She is so BOLD and Unapologetic. I watch videos of her so often I had to confess that she is my current source of inspiration and just pure AWW!! There is nobody like her and everything about what she does is ART! I especially love all the work she did with Jean Paul Goude. She is amazing and most definitely one of my top visual artists of all time!

Tell Me You Love Me Installation (Ground and Vision)

A few years ago I shot some images for Ground and Vision, a high end very modern shoes and sunglasses boutique. This series of photos have been my most popular images to date. The Tell ME YOU LOVE ME series featured shoes and sunglasses all from the boutique. The images were given to Whip Studio, an amazing design team. They created this really amazing installation for the display cases for all the products. The installation incorporates my images from the photoshoot and scenes from the bosque. I really love the grainy look of the whole piece. It reminds me very much of my film work when I first started shooting (Aww 400speed film those were the days). I recently meet the designers at a lunch meeting for a project I did for the Dirty Forest Valentine recycled fashion show, they are very intelligent and lovely women. check out there website. After I shot the "I Hurt...because I LOVE" images, three weeks went by of shooting nothing and I was literally going crazy. I needed to shoot something new BAD so I called over one of my models (Chelsea) to do some interesting beauty shots. The photos involve very textured hair and very specific make up. the image above was inspired by an alien or sci fi type look, unnaturally nude face with a bold lip. The second look is a completely different look and is top secret for now cause its a part of my new exciting collaborating project that will reveal itself in the near future.

Silence is Golden

So I shot one of my good friends David for a new series I am working on called I AM NOT MYSELF. I shot him with this amazing gold half mask that I made for a piece called "Silence is Golden". My intentions were to make this image black and white with gold accents but the sky was the most unbelievable heavy gradient color that day I had to leave it all color. We hiked up the national petroglyph park to the top of the plateaus and shot in the open air. It was great day and fun shoot. David reminds me of a modern day Elvis, very handsome. I am so in love with this piece its exactly the type of rich color work i am into. I shot some really stunning images of him without the mask that plan use for my portfolio as well.

One of my favorite images of all time that I shot was published in the Santa Fean Magazine for the LOVE show at the POP Gallery. It was the TELL ME YOU LOVE ME picture with Amy. This is the first time one of my image has been published in a magazine (so thrilled). I own like 10 copies just for myself. The review was great and they even wrote about me and my work. "I hurt...Because I LOVE YOU" (POP GALLERY LOVE SHOW)

I got asked to show in a major art gallery in Santa Fe at a gallery in the Plaza called POP (THIS IS A REALLY BIG DEAL). Its a group exhibition inspired by the word LOVE. This is a dream of mine for some time to be able to show at a very well known gallery in Santa Fe. The style of the POP GALLERY is a perfect marriage for me and my work. I had a meeting with the owners they told me that more Odd the work is the better, right then and there I knew it was meant to be. As I drove back to my house I was thinking about new pieces that would suit the love theme. I am not really interested in Happy Loving Sappy images so naturally I decided to showcase the subversive side of love. I came up with an idea that was really personal about me, my relationship and a phase in my life. I created two characters, one based on me and the other based on my boyfriend. The first girl was this Power Woman very strong, hard and tough. This girl represents the the type of callous woman that could just tear you in half and not even think twice (ME). The second girl is a complete dichotomy from the first. This woman is the epitome of romance and love, a die hard romantic. The scene I set up was an image nobody is supposed to see. These two very different woman that represent two completely different spectrums of love both crying from a broken heart. Its a commentary about the power love has on people. How no matter how strong a person is love can break a person down to their core. These two shoots were very different from my usual photo shoots. I directed less and told the girls to go to a sad place emotionally. Both girls literally starting to cry during the shoot, it was so intense. I feel very privileged to capture a moment that was so real and to work with models that took it to that level of intensity. The black and white image is of one my new favorite models Liz and the other girl is Bianca who is MISS NEW MEXICO USA 2009. I titled the pieces " I hurt...Because I LOVE YOU". I am so proud of these pieces and I really think its some of my best work. Thank you to Carlo Mazziotta who did the make up for both photoshoots. I am also showing two pieces from the "Tell Me You Love ME!!' series and "My Look Is Much Girl" and "There Are Just Some Things We Just Don't Talk About". A Dark Place.......

It started with the piece I did titled "My look is MUCH Girl!" (a few posts below). I have this fascination with masks and literally objectifying people. The idea of turning people into things or objects as opposed to humans with feelings and personalities. I really want to explore this concept because its so bizarre yet enthralling. I really feel like my work is going to a darker place. I like to collect masks, they posses this liberating yet subversive power that allows one to do things that perhaps they normally wouldn't do. I AM NOT MYSELF! I really identify beauty and character in the face so to cover the face turns that person into someone else completely. Naturally I love this because I think the same point can be said about transformative make up which is what I love to shoot girls in. I shot this new piece with Liz who ROCKS!! She is not afraid to try anything. We shot this piece downtown and she had this confidence and piercing eyes.It is called "THERE ARE SOME THINGS WE JUST DON'T TALK ABOUT" Enjoy!!

I took some photos of this girl named Michelle a few months back. This girl was awesome, she is a fitness model and competitor and totally has the MAXIUM look. The images came out very sexy especially the ones that were shot on my piano. I was really happy with the final images they were exactly what I had in mind for her project. Apparently they were exactly what her husband liked cause he tattooed one of the images I shot on his arm. It looks so cool he made her a devil and put horns on her and blood HOW AMAZING IS THAT!! WOW!! This totally made my day!

San Francisco

I went to San Francisco for the first time and was taken back. I have not been to a city that was quite like this. Everything about this city was so ALIVE and full of excitement. WOW! I was so enthralled by the energy and sites of the city. I got to see the Kylie Minogue concert, which was a dream come true. I saw some amazing Art (SFMOMA), took photos of architecture, saw so many interesting events (LoveFEST and Castro Street Fair).I saw so many different types of people everywhere (haha even radom compleltely naked people walking around) My eyes where gonna explode from so much stimulation. I got dressed up everyday and ate fabulous food and spent some quality time with Alexx. I most definitely came back extremely motivated and inspired.

This is from my latest photo shoot, the model was perfect for this idea. This girl has the best Energy and attitude, I definitely want to work with her again. The concept for these photographs revolved around a few different ideas, Electricity, Metallics, Shattered Mirrors and Static. We shot some of these at the electric service station nearby (very scary) we could hear the electricity humming everywhere but it made for a gorgeous backdrop. This was inspired by a short film that a friend of mine Rebecca Wiggins (She is brilliant) was in titled Static for the 48 hour film festival. It also features the sunglasses that I made. I met this girl at one of my art shows a couple months ago. Her name is LIZ and she is SPECTACULAR! She has this LOOK....and she is very WILD....which i LOVE! I really enjoy working with models that are adventurous and have an edge. I just shot a new series that was inspired by electricity and smashed mirrors that she was perfect for. I finally had my picture taken! I had to for my new website. This is a rare occassion, Indeed! I actually had a lot of fun being on the other side of the camera. I really LOVE this image! I wanted my photo to be dashing, smart and handsome! Alexx Mayo took this photo of me and did my make up. I really LOVE this image, I feel like it looks like me looking my best! I am wearing my new favorite motorcycle jacket and my favorite puffy bow tie! Now everyone knows what i look like! I wanted to get back into color and here is the direction my color work is going with VERY RICH SHADES! I shot these photos for my website that is coming very very soon.(YAY!) The Model for this photo was Jessica Mary Veronica, she is so great to work with! The backdrop was a gorgeous purple and model was a very porcelain skin tone with dark hair, it was a contrast junkies dream come true! The Photos are double exposed to create a going from crossed eyed and back effect, like when the double images in your eyes are about to meet again to make one. SHE REALLY POPS!

I can probably say that Lady Gaga has been my biggest inspiration for a while! She embodies everything I LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Her infatuation for things avante garde and seemingly different is so refreshing. As silly as this sounds i think we are on similar wave length sometimes. I always tell my boyfriend ideas for photoshoots or looks in general and weeks later she will have some form of that idea as her look. My work for the past few months as had a focus on POWER WOMEN, and she is the the queen of them! There really isn't any other celebrated person like Gaga. Most stars are always so stylish and fashionable but she really embodies the artistic side of fashion. She really has Nerve to be who she is and its so inspiring to me!

Lately I have been very interested in shooting very glamourous beauty photos that have a lot of sex appeal. I always kinda go for the "interesting" or "different" fashion looks in my work but i really have wanted to just shoot something thats just ULTRA SEXY! Enter ANNA-LYNN CRUZ! She is a model for PLAYBOY and she is the epitome of what i wanted to capture. She has that Exotic Bombshell look that reminds me a lot of Sophia Loren. I am so in love with the look of these photos! I just shot my first male nude for Adult Film Star Nico Sky. The photo shoot was really different from what i normally ever shoot. The photos came out looking so cool. I have been wanting to shoot more males and incorporating male models into my work. I see myself as a very versatile photographer and that even though i have a certain style i can shoot a wide range of photographs!

I AM OBSESSED WITH HIGH FASHION TYPE HATS! I CAME ACROSS THIS DESIGNER NAMED PHILIP TRACEY AND DISCOVERED HOW AMAZING HATS CAN BE! THE HATS THAT HE MAKES ARE MORE LIKE SCULPTURES OR PIECES OF FINE ART! AMAZING SHAPES AND BOLD BOLD STATEMENTS! THE PERSON WHO WEARS THESE HATS DEFINITELY HAS NERVE CAUSE THEY ARE LOUD! THIS YEAR I ENTERED THE PRIDE '09 ARTSHOW AND SHOWED 3 SENSATIONAL PIECES. "MY LOOK IS MUCH, GIRL!" "SHADOWY LADY" AND A PHOTO FROM THE "NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD HER NO!" SERIES! I WAS REALLY EXCITED JUST TO SHOW AND LET PEOPLE SEE WHAT I HAVE BEEN UP TO! THE GOSSIP TEAM SHOWED UP TO PRIDE AND DIRECTLY WENT TO SEE THE ARTSHOW! WALKED IN THE DOOR AND SAW MY PIECE ,(NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD HER NO!), WITH A HUGE RIBBON ON IT! BEST IN SHOW!! OMG I WAS SO EXCITED AND OVERWHELMED, I CRIED! THIS WAS A MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ME AND EVERYONE INVOLVED! ITS VERY ELEVATING AND MOTIVATING!

DIRTY FOREST VALENTINE....RECYCLED GOODS FASHION SHOW!!

I had such a great time shooting the ad for the Recycled Goods Fashion show titled DIRTY FOREST VALENTINE that is gonna be June 27th! I shot with one of my newest models her name is Nickie Jean and she is a dream! The concept for the whole show is "Winter's Thaw" kinda like the cold, the dead , is finally ended and all the newness and freshness has arrived! The clothing was made from t shirts and taken apart and made into these exquisite dresses! Way more Fabulous they were were ever intended to be initially! I think the concept is brilliant! So I decided to shoot it in the Bosque where everything isn't quite let bloomed and still has that fall like feel (the fire helped with the look as well). The concept i felt represented a lot of the artist here in NM! There really are some amazing artist that are coming out of a place that at times seems so stale and suppressed by in the box thinking! ALEXX MAYO did the make up and hair once again and it was perfection! The look was very fresh dewy and monochromatic! STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS! I created some beautiful photos for the show and got some stunning nudes too! Everyone is gonna be pleased with the photos and i hope they do a lot for the fashion show!

So i wanted to start a blog to share with people what I am all about and what inspires ME! My name is Josef Jasso and i am a conceptual artist! I live to create photographs. I definitely consider myself to be a fashion based artist! Statements.....I am all about statements! I create bold alluring statment pieces that make you stop.......look......and talk about, hence GOSSIP! I have been shooting for 4 years now and i feel like i have done a lot in that time. I have learned so much from experience and i am always looking to better myself and my work. I am 25 now and in the near future i can see my work in magazines and other publications!
